LYNN R. SMART
508-280-3790
Lynn Smart grew up in an artistic family encouraged by her mother, her father’s mother, and her father’s two sisters - all artists. She graduated from Skidmore College with a BS degree in Studio Art with a minor in Art History. She taught third graders for two years always enjoying their talent for painting and creating.
After marriage and two children and many moves around the Eastern US, Lynn and her family finally settled in Bernardsville, NJ, where she joined the Somerset Art Association in the late 1970’s. While taking a class in pastels and portraiture with Joe Hing Lowe, she came to love the medium.
After her husband John retired, the family moved to Cape Cod where the beauty of the area, the sea, the flowers, and the skies-- all provided infinite inspiration. Lynn joined the Creative Arts Center in Chatham and the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod.
In 1996, her family made their permanent residence in Florida and with the creation of the Art League of Bonita Springs she has studied under Cheri Dunnigan with workshops with Paul Leveille, Greg Biolchini, Alan Flattmann, Doug Dawson, Robert Carsten and Sangita Phadke.
Pastels are truly a joy with which to work, given the infinite variety of colors and the vibrancy of pure pigment. It is a forgivable medium with more and more grounds being developed for achieving a greater variety of effects. Lynn has won several awards for her work and won “Best in Show” in the All Cape Cod Art Show at CAC in 2011. She is a member of the Pastel Painters Society of Cape Cod and the Southwest Florida Pastel Society.
